In order to maintain essential services and allocate additional funds toward disaster preparedness without increasing taxes, Friendswood must optimize its existing resources by improving efficiency and cutting wasteful expenditures. This includes:
-
Performance Audits & Budget Realignment: Conducting periodic department-wide audits to identify inefficiencies and redirect resources toward critical services such as infrastructure and emergency response.
-
Technology & Process Automation: Investing in technology-driven solutions that reduce overhead costs, improve efficiency, and free up funds for priority projects. Many cities have successfully lowered operational expenses through paperless permitting systems, smart water meters, and digital services that reduce administrative costs. We do much of this currently and we should continue to follow this path.
-
Intergovernmental Collaboration: Exploring shared service agreements with neighboring municipalities to cut costs on bulk purchasing, equipment sharing, and emergency response coordination.
